Builder Bill
William J. Grady, III
Owner, Craftsman
I’m proud to say that I’ve been building all of my life. I love building! I enjoy listening to customers and helping to design and build their dreams. After the initial visit, I put together drawings and an estimate. Upon agreement to start the project; I usually spend a day with the customer refining the design. We go shopping for tile, bathroom, kitchen, and lighting fixtures. One of our recently completed projects was a whole house remodel. The customer told me that “they thought about including us on their Christmas card along with their two dogs… we were almost part of their family.” I really think it’s a privilege to be asked to remodel your kitchen, bath or any part of your home. I was raised believing that “the customers always right,” and “if you’re going to do something, do it right the first time.” So I want you to know the only thing that matters is your complete satisfaction. This is how we run our business and why we’ve developed lots of friendships with customers over the years.
Growing up we never called in anyone to fix anything in our house. Our first kitchen renovation was at 310 Sheldon Ave, Staten Island, NY, our first home. Dad designed and built custom kitchen cabinets of knotty pine lumber. We were seven years old and we were dad’s helpers. Under his apprenticeship we learned at an early age how to analyze a problem, come up with a solution, and put a plan into action to repair or build whatever needed to be done. With some experience, you find out that sometimes Plan B or maybe even Plan C is required. We learned how to build watching dad, fetching tools and sweeping up after each day’s work. Dad was retired from the fire department after he was in a fire accident and crushed three fingers on his right hand. He joined International Business Machines in 1956 at 590 Madison Avenue and worked his way up the corporate ladder. In 1963 we moved to the Northwest Chicago suburbs. IBM stood for “I’ve Been Moved,” and it seemed like we moved every two or three years thereafter. The joke was, “Dad’s been promoted, it’s time to get ready for the appraisers…” We grew up in a large family, and we always built a basement to have a place to play, and add finished space. That’s how I learned to build.
In every house I’ve lived in; we we’ve made renovations to improve the value of our home. The neighbors have been kidding me for years about what may be our latest project. We always did improve the value of our home, and I think it’s exciting that we get to help change the look and improve the value of your home. I really take to heart that we are working in someone’s home, and we try to do everything possible to protect its beauty while we are remodeling. We sincerely would like opportunity to add you to our list of happy customers.
